Last week we lowered the club flag to make the passing of Ian Tiley on 29 December 2021 following a battle with cancer that has extended over many years. “Tiles, as he was affectionately known, was 81 years old and he is now at peace.
The funeral service to celebrate his life will be held at 2.00pm on Thursday 13 January 2022 at the Eastern Suburbs Memorial Park, Botany. After the service, drinks to honour “Tiles” will be taken at the Eastern Suburbs Rugby Club, at Woollahra Oval. Ian was an Honorary Life Member of the Easts Rugby Club.
A story from Tiles past for members:
In the 1970s the Bondi Lifesavers’ Rugby Club toured the USA. They played 5 matches, 1 in Hawaii and 4 in California. To subsidise the trip, the Club carried out some fundraising, including a wine bottling, producing Bondi Lifesavers’ labelled Sauvignon and Cab. Sav. A production
There is another EPIC weekend of racing coming up this weekend on the Beach. Our neighbours at North Bondi SLSC are hosting the first rounds of the Nutri-Grain IronMan and IronWoman Series.

Christmas at Bondi
This year the Surf Club is hosting Christmas lunch for all-comers in the Blue Room.
You’ll notice plenty of activity around the Club in coming days. From today the food will be arriving and we’ll be starting to decorate and set up.
We’d love your help! If you can’t be there on the day but would like to contribute to this great community event, feel free to place a gift under the Giving Tree in the Main Hall up until Christmas morning. If you have time to spare and are keen to help out, contact organiser Sebastian Cassie on xmas@bondisurfclub.com. He’ll get back to you via email with all the details this week.
