Today, sadly, we changed to an Australian White Ensign flag at half mast to honour the life of service of one of our great patrolling members, Henry John Rantzen, who passed away peacefully this morning.

John was born on 18 March 1934 and joined the club in 1981. He became a radio controller for the club in 1990, and when the separate Radio Officer role ceased, he gained his bronze medallion in 1997 (at the age of 63). He then rapidly became a Patrol Captain of Patrol 6 in 1999, and Assistant Chief Instructor (1999-2002). Over time he completed 52 awards and became one of our most skilled captains. In 2003, I made him a mentor Patrol Captain, working with the new captains to learn the skills needed on a busy beach.

Since SLSA started tracking hours in 2005, he completed 884 hours of patrolling, and 34 hours in the season

Dear member

Following our presentation night on 22 June for the building upgrade works we have developed a FAQ sheet to address the questions and comments that have come up over the last two weeks. Please take the time to read through this and the presentation slides also provided.

As part of the detailed design process we are preparing further consultation and surveys that will be used to help guide the solutions. Look out for these over the coming weeks.

If you have any questions or comments please send them to buildingcommittee@bondisurfclub.com by 15 July 2022 so we can accommodate in the next phase.

Democracy is always the winner

Democracy is always the winner of a peaceful and civilised voting process, and we should never take that for granted. But yesterday the rain held off in the morning, and the feeling was festive and energetic around the club.

Admittedly, much of the world finds some of our Election Day processes harder to understand, and love showing these off – #democracysausage and #smugglersdecide certainly were out in force despite the weather conditions.

As usual, our club formed the backdrop for the worlds view of Australian elections – there may only be a few thousand votes cast in the world’s #firstsurfclub – but you would think otherwise from the media coverage!

Below are a few of the articles we have seen this year – if you find any other photos or videos etc. please pop them in the comments below so we can keep track of them.

Well done to our IRB team and Steve
