The BSBLSC is thrilled to be a recipient of a $5k Community Heritage Grant under the category of Maritime Museums of Australia Project Support Scheme (MMAPSS).

The grant will enable the Club to establish our heritage collection as nationally significant. This will allow us to improve care of the collection, identify items for conservation activities, help bring the collection closer to being digitally accessible, and assist in reaching our goal to have the collection on display for the Australian public.

Archivist and historian Christine Yeats has been engaged to assess our collection that is a mix of documents, publications, memorabilia, textiles and other items associated with surf lifesaving.

The assessment will be based as much on the intangible heritage value of the BSBLSC as an organisation – being the world’s first surf club, the birthplace of surf lifesaving, and the creators of the surf reel – as much as it is an
