The Most Expensive Car Parking Space Sold in Australia is At Bondi Beach

The crown jewel of Sydney’s unexpected car park market is a single space on Notts Avenue, Bondi Beach. This sold for an astounding $304,700 on January 31, 2024. The sale makes it to the list of Australia’s most expensive car parking spaces and highlights the premium placed on convenience in the bustling beachside locale.

The scarcity of parking in Bondi Beach is a significant factor. As the suburb has grown in popularity among both residents and visitors, available parking has become increasingly rare. This scarcity, coupled with strict council regulations on new developments, has created a perfect storm for car park investors.

“We are increasingly seeing people [investing in parking spaces] for the lifestyle benefit,” Stolz adds. “Some people in areas like Bondi, for example, might think it’s just worth it getting a park spot near Bondi Beach so they can head down after work and jump in the ocean.”

Investors are also attracted to the relatively low maintenance nature of car park ownership. Unlike traditional property investments, parking spaces require minimal upkeep while still offering the potential for steady rental income or capital appreciation.

The Notts Avenue sale isn’t an isolated incident. Another car park in nearby Bondi Junction on Spring Street sold for $120,000 in March 2021, further cementing the area’s reputation as a hotspot for parking investments.

However, potential investors should note that while these high-profile sales grab headlines, they represent the extreme end of the market. Not all car parks in the area will command such premium prices, and due diligence is crucial when considering such investments.

Bondi Beach Surfing Legend Pauline Menczer Releases New Book ‘Surf Like a Woman’

Local surfing legend Pauline Menczer from Bondi Beach has told her remarkable story in a new book, “Surf Like a Woman,” detailing how she overcame sexism, homophobia, and rheumatoid arthritis to become World Surfing Champion.

Menczer remains the only Bondi surfer to win a World Title, achieved in 1993. Despite this significant achievement, she never received any prize money, as all funds went to the men’s champion.

A mural of Menczer now adorns Bondi Beach’s promenade, with a bronze statue set to follow soon, honouring her legacy.

Challenges of the 80s and 90s Surf Culture

In the 80s and 90s, surf culture was particularly toxic for women. Female surfers faced numerous obstacles, including lack of sponsorship, minimal pay, and constant underestimation.

Menczer was one of the pioneers who broke through these barriers, paving the way for future generations of women in surfing. Despite her success, she and her fellow female surfers had to scrape by on minimal income, often barely breaking even after covering travel, equipment, and medical expenses.

“Surf Like a Woman” chronicles the highs and lows of her journey, including her battle with debilitating rheumatoid arthritis and the need to hide her same-sex relationship for fear of discrimination in competitions. Her resilience and determination are highlighted throughout her memoir, showing how she navigated the male-dominated sport.

The book also touches on the achievements of contemporary female surfers, such as Australian Molly Picklum, who recently made history with a perfect score at Hawaii’s Pipe Pro. Picklum has admired trailblazers like Menczer, who inspired her to push the limits.

Continued Advocacy

After her professional surfing career, Menczer continues to fight against sexism and misogyny in the sport. She also raises awareness for sportswomen with autoimmune diseases like rheumatoid arthritis. She recently appeared in the documentary “Girls Can’t Surf,” alongside other surfing legends, challenging the male-dominated surfing culture.

“Surf Like a Woman” is not just a memoir but a celebration of the resilience, strength, and power of women in sport. The story of Pauline Menczer is a shining example of courage and determination required to break down barriers and achieve greatness in the face of adversity.

Hospital Ordeal: A Fight for Survival

Caroline’s injuries were severe; her skull was crushed and her brain was severely damaged, leaving her in a coma. Doctors initially gave her a mere five per cent chance of survival, cautioning that she might remain in a permanent vegetative state.

Caroline’s mother, undeterred by the dire predictions, flew from Brazil to support her daughter, firmly believing in her recovery and often asserting that the doctors underestimated Caroline’s resilience.

A Slow Road to Recovery

Against all odds, Caroline awakened from the coma after four months. She then faced a daunting path ahead, relearning basic functions like walking and talking.

Over time, Caroline underwent numerous surgeries to repair her skull and address the neurological damage. The full reality of her situation only dawned on her on the first anniversary of the accident, marking a significant turning point in her recovery.

Two years after the accident, Caroline returned to Europe to retrace her steps, a journey that included visiting the Barcelona hospital room where she had battled for survival. This experience was part of her extensive recovery process, during which she also launched a new venture, an ethical shoe company named No Saints.

Caroline’s daily life reflects her ongoing struggle and determination. She continually pushes herself to face each new day with courage.

Inspirational Message and Continued Advocacy

With her story, she aims to inspire other trauma survivors and highlight that recovery, though daunting, is attainable. Australia Rallies Behind Baby Harriet After Tragic Attack

In the wake of the horrific stabbing attack at Bondi Westfield on April 13th that claimed six lives, a glimmer of hope has emerged. Australia rallies behind 9-month-old baby Harriet, who survived the rampage but tragically lost her mother, Ashlee Good.

A GoFundMe campaign launched by Ashlee’s loved ones has raised over half a million dollars in just three days for Harriet and her father Dan. The staggering outpouring of generosity far exceeded the initial $100,000 target, a testament to the nation’s compassion.

“We have been overwhelmed by requests from loved ones and strangers wanting to support Dan and Harriet as they face life without their beloved Ash,” the fundraiser organizers wrote.

“Being a mother to baby Harriet and partner to Dan was Ash’s whole life. Her love and commitment to them was evident to all who knew her.”

Ashlee, described as “a ray of sunshine and positivity,” died shielding baby Harriet during the knife attack carried out by Joel Cauchi. Despite sustaining stab wounds, Harriet is reportedly in serious but stable condition at Sydney Children’s Hospital.

“We can report that after hours of surgery yesterday our baby is currently doing well. We are so grateful for the expert care and attention of the medical team at Sydney Children’s Hospital,” Harriet’s family said, also thanking the two men who cared for the injured infant.

“To the two men who held and cared for our baby when Ashlee could not – words cannot express our gratitude.”

As vigils were held and a memorial of flowers grew at Bondi Junction, donor messages poured in offering condolences and support.

Bondi Farewells Beloved Pasticceria Papa After a Decade of Delights

For ten years, Pasticceria Papa has been a pillar of Bondi Beach’s vibrant culinary scene. But after a decade of serving up sweet treats and savoury delights, the iconic Italian restaurant has sadly closed its doors.

The much-loved bakery and eatery, renowned for its delectable pastries, creamy gelato, and authentic paninis, announced their closure on Instagram.  Their final day of service was Sunday, 28th April.

Pasticceria Papa cultivated a loyal following, as evidenced by their impressive 20,000 strong Instagram following. This dedicated fan base grew thanks to Papa’s unwavering commitment to bringing a taste of Italy to Sydney’s eastern suburbs.

While Bondi Beach bids farewell to Papa, the family business isn’t disappearing entirely.  Their Haberfield and Five Dock locations in Sydney’s inner west will continue to operate, welcoming staff members from the Bondi store.

Papa received critical acclaim from the very beginning. A 2014 review on the website Broadsheet praised the restaurant as a haven where patrons could “blissfully consume baked, frozen, cured, and cooked delights enough to feed a small Italian village.”

The closure announcement on Papa’s Instagram acknowledged the outpouring of support from the Bondi community. They expressed their gratitude, stating, “We had a fantastic 10 years at Bondi Beach and are so grateful to the local Bondi community for supporting us over the years.”

While the lease ending at the Bondi location prompted this chapter’s closure, Pasticceria Papa remains optimistic about the future. “We have decided to close this chapter and are excited for new ventures to come,” their post reads, leaving fans eagerly awaiting Papa’s next move.

The heartfelt message concluded with a final thank you: “We would like to say a BIG Thank You to our amazing customers and Bondi staff for all the love, support, and hard work they have provided over the past 10 years.”

For those seeking their Italian favourites, Pasticceria Papa encourages patrons to visit their Haberfield and Five Dock stores, which will “continue to trade as normal.”

Headlights on Bondi Beach: Tesla Cybertruck Sparks Speculation, But Not About Affordability

Sydneysiders got an eyeful this week with the surprise appearance of a Tesla Cybertruck cruising the city’s streets, including a photogenic pitstop at Bondi Beach.

By posting a picture of the futuristic truck next to its more traditional Model 3 and Model Y cousins, Tesla Australia’s social media channels added fuel to the fire.

While the sightings have sparked speculation about a potential Australian release, there’s one detail that might dampen the enthusiasm of budget-conscious electric vehicle enthusiasts: the Cybertruck’s hefty price tag.

In the United States, the base model starts at a cool $US60,000 before on-road costs, with the top-of-the-range tri-motor version exceeding a staggering $US100,000. With Australia’s typically higher car prices, a local release would likely see those figures climb even further.

The Cybertruck’s arrival in Sydney isn’t all sunshine and beach views, however. The truck has faced production issues and quality control problems in the US, with early adopters reporting misaligned panels and finishing concerns after years of waiting for delivery. There have also been safety recalls related to a potential accelerator pedal malfunction.

So, while the Cybertruck’s dramatic presence on Sydney streets has no doubt turned heads, the reality of its potential Australian arrival comes with a hefty financial caveat and lingering questions about quality and safety.

Bondi Beach Holds Poignant ‘Paddle-Out’ to Honour Westfield Victims

With heavy hearts, the Bondi community gathered at their iconic beach for a moving “paddle-out” ceremony.

This event served as a collective moment of reflection for the victims and those affected by the recent Westfield stabbing tragedy.

Seasoned surfers and ocean enthusiasts alike, along with members of the Waverley community, heeded the call from the Bronte Surf Life Saving Club.

The club’s Facebook post invited everyone to join the paddle-out at 6:00 a.m., offering an alternative for those uncomfortable venturing into the water: a shared moment of reflection on the beach.

This emotional gathering comes just over a week after the horrific events of Saturday, 13th of April. Joel Cauchi, a 40-year-old man, unleashed a violent stabbing spree within the Westfield Bondi Junction shopping centre. The senseless attack claimed the lives of six innocent people and left at least a dozen others injured. Many of those wounded remain hospitalised, adding to the community’s grief and concern.

As the paddle-out unfolded, the iconic Bondi Beach transformed into a poignant display of unity and remembrance. With each stroke of the oar, the community paid silent tribute to the victims and offered solace to those grappling with loss and trauma.

The removal of floral tributes at Westfield this morning served as a stark reminder of the tragedy, further amplifying the need for healing and togetherness.
