To become a Bondi Lifesaver yo

To become a Bondi Lifesaver you need to pass an 8 week Bronze Medallion course. This course is split between in classroom and on the beach lessons.

In class you will learn about beach management, first aid, and resuscitation. The skills you learn for the beach are valuable transferable skills that can be used off the beach with on land accidents and emergencies. You will practice repeatedly so your response is instantaneous.

Once you have achieved your Bronze, you will have the option of going on to complete more advanced first aid courses and every year every active member of the club completes a proficiency to revise and update skills.

Our next 8-week Bronze course starts in October. Register for the online induction at 10am on 23rd October here – https://fb.me/e/1PwlWLn8c

It is sometimes hard to believ

It is sometimes hard to believe that swimming at the beach wasn’t always popular. It wasn’t until the summer of 1905/06 that people started flocking to Bondi to swim, and they came in the thousands. As you can imagine the vast majority of visitors had no swimming skills at all and no experience in the surf. After several drownings, a group of locals and non-locals met at the Royal Hotel Bondi on the 21 February 1907 and formed what was to be known as Bondi Surf Bathers’ Life Saving Club.

For the first season members volunteered when they wanted to, however with the invention of the Surf Reel there needed to be a minimum of 4 men on the beach to use it. There are many roles that a Li

There are many roles that a Lifesaver can play on the beach. One is to be crew in the IRB or Inflatable Rescue Boat. The IRB has a driver and a crew member on board. The crew member helps with direction, signaling, using their weight to balance the boat as it bounces over waves, but mainly to pull people out of the water. This is a skill performed with technique, speed and leverage, not brut force. We can teach you how.

Your journey to become a lifesaver starts with gaining your Bronze Medallion where we teach you all you need to know about beach awareness, safety and rescue. Our next 8 week course starts in October. For more info – https://bondisurfclub.com/get-involved/join-us/
