Our Bondi Surf Lifesavers Cour

Our Bondi Surf Lifesavers Courtney Date and Richard Nicholas have been recognised in The Daily Telegraph today for their extraordinary rescue in the Colo River floods earlier this year.

The article goes on to highlight the incredible service the Surf Life Saving movement offers.

“There’s no other organisation like Surf Life Saving. We’re a major emergency service, we’re an iconic sport, we’re a youth movement, we’re a training organisation that teaches everyday first aid and we’re community groups where families come together,” Surf Life Saving Australia (SLSA) President John Baker ESM.

“I think the main thing that underpins Surf Life Saving is everyone comes together with that sense of community service and volunteerism… and it is so incredibly important to all Australians.”

Great to be back! The first we

Great to be back! The first weekend of the season had a bit of everything – cracking sunrises, storms, rain and sunshine.

Covid restrictions meant masks, social distancing and limited numbers of lifesavers on the beach. The storms on Saturday kept the beach quiet and the patrol tent was taken down for safety. Sunday brought the sun and more fun.

Thanks to all patroling members this weekend.

Each surf lifesaving patrol is

Each surf lifesaving patrol is made up of volunteer lifesavers with different strengths and skills.

There are Patrol Captains, and Vice Captains who manage the patrols both on and off the sand. There are IRB drivers and crew, who take the boat out to rescues. Patrol members may rescue people on rescue boards or with tubes, use first aid skills and resus equipment, keep people between the flags and of course help lost children find their parents.

Your journey to become a lifesaver starts with gaining your Bronze Medallion where we teach you all you need to know about beach awareness, safety and rescue. Our next 8 week course starts in October. For more info – https://bondisurfclub.com/get-involved/join-us/

The club community is saddened

The club community is saddened by the passing of Margaret Byrnes, mother of long Service Member Greg Byrnes. Long time Bondi locals and matriarch of the well known and loved Byrnes family, Margaret was a constant presence and supporter of the club in the 1990s and early 2000s. Margaret was actively involved in the administration and coordination of social activities of the club. A selfless behind the scenes worker whose contribution helped our club significantly over these years.
A private funeral will be held on Monday 2nd August. A further celebration of Margret’s life will be held at a later date when restrictions lift. On behalf of the club we wish to extend our condolences to Jim, Kate, Greg, Mark and Paul, and their families.
