Surf boat racing is an iconic Surf Lifesaving sport where 4 Crew with a Sweep race against competitor surf clubs. Once you have completed your Bronze Medallion you could join a boat and have the opportunity to travel to carnivals all around the country.

It is always fascinating to review our museum pieces and to see how lifesaving was shaped and by whom.
This roster from 1925 features the names of three great men who went on to be honoured by Bondi Surf Club when we named patrols after them: Fletcher, Meagher and Douglas.

Today we have 2 patrols a day on Saturdays and Sundays with over 20 members in each. This roster shows that there was only one afternoon patrol on a Saturday afternoon but 4 patrols on a Sunday. Today we have 18 patrols compared to the 10 patrols on this roster. The members were therefore patrolling twice as often as we do today.

Lifesavers use the yellow boards to rescue people struggling in the water. As part of the Bronze Medallion course you are taught how to ride the boards and how to rescue people on them.

Once you have completed your course you will have the opportunity to attend training sessions or borrow the boards to practice on.
