Last Weekend at Bondi Surf Club

It started with a giant inflatable mango out the front of the Clubhouse and ended with mangos on the barbecue, dinner and drinks with friends in the sunshine on the back deck!

Saturday was the @Calypso Mangoes activation. The kitted-out Kombi & Co. van, individual cups of fresh mango and Gelatissimo mango gelato were a real hit with everyone.

There were enough mangoes left to go on the barbecue on Sunday night along with freshly-made salads prepared by the The Blue Room Bondi and meat for the barbecue thanks to Harris Farm Markets.

Join us again next Sunday at Bottles for some sunshine, fresh air, good food and drinks and good company to see out the weekend in Bondi. The Blue Room is open from 5pm for members and their guests.

Thanks to Brett Pattinson, Michael Hallam and Will Mitchell for making it all happen last weekend.

Last week we lowered the club flag to make the passing of Ian Tiley on 29 December 2021 following a battle with cancer that has extended over many years. “Tiles, as he was affectionately known, was 81 years old and he is now at peace.

The funeral service to celebrate his life will be held at 2.00pm on Thursday 13 January 2022 at the Eastern Suburbs Memorial Park, Botany. After the service, drinks to honour “Tiles” will be taken at the Eastern Suburbs Rugby Club, at Woollahra Oval. Ian was an Honorary Life Member of the Easts Rugby Club.

A story from Tiles past for members:
In the 1970s the Bondi Lifesavers’ Rugby Club toured the USA. They played 5 matches, 1 in Hawaii and 4 in California. To subsidise the trip, the Club carried out some fundraising, including a wine bottling, producing Bondi Lifesavers’ labelled Sauvignon and Cab. Sav. A production

Bottles this Sunday: Let’s go outside!

The front and back balconies will both be open for members and guests to enjoy a beer, a chat and some summer sunshine.

You can still be inside, but masks must be worn when not seated.

There is another EPIC weekend of racing coming up this weekend on the Beach. Our neighbours at North Bondi SLSC are hosting the first rounds of the Nutri-Grain IronMan and IronWoman Series.

It’s hard to believe it was only 2 years ago this week that the townships of the South Coast were in such dramatic need for help with the Bushfires.

Combined with 2 years of pandemic, the message at that time relayed through Mathew Hatcher (now the Mayor of the Eurobodalla council) is just as relevant today – these communities need your tourism dollars and spending power to help them get back on their feet.

Christmas at Bondi

This year the Surf Club is hosting Christmas lunch for all-comers in the Blue Room.

You’ll notice plenty of activity around the Club in coming days. From today the food will be arriving and we’ll be starting to decorate and set up.

We’d love your help! If you can’t be there on the day but would like to contribute to this great community event, feel free to place a gift under the Giving Tree in the Main Hall up until Christmas morning. If you have time to spare and are keen to help out, contact organiser Sebastian Cassie on xmas@bondisurfclub.com. He’ll get back to you via email with all the details this week.

We need helpers for:
* Set up (cooking, preparing the food and setting tables) – 8am-11am

It’s Beginning To Look A Lot Like Christmas …
The Blue Room is looking very festive ahead of tomorrow’s Christmas lunch, with decorations generously supplied by Chas Clarkson Christmas & Illumination!
Everyone is invited to join us and, if you can’t be there for any reason, you can still contribute by leaving a gift under the Giving Tree in the Main Hall right up until Christmas morning.
If you have time to spare and are keen to help out, come down on the day for set up (8-11am), lunch and entertainment (11am-2:30pm) or clean up and pack down (2:30-4pm).
