The fourth episode of the Bond

The fourth episode of the Bondi Patrol Podcast was released this week.

In it, Glen Frost speaks to Kenny Salisbury who has been involved with the Club in two ways: when his two daughters were younger, he was a Nippers parent, and now he’s helping club members get fit and stay fit with boxing – that’s because Kenny is a boxing champion.

Kenny was born and raised in Liverpool in the mid-1950s. He came to Sydney in the 1970s, and has lived in Bondi ever since. Kenny started boxing at 11, has had 33 professional fights and won 32 fights by knock outs! Kenny became an English Boxing champion, then an Australian champion, then a Commonwealth Champion.

He jogs and works out every day; and he shares his passion for fitness with other members of the Club. He speaks to Glen about why is Nippers important; discusses boxing, travelling the world and meeting

The 81st Stan & Basil McDonald

The 81st Stan & Basil McDonald Relay was held yesterday.
What a great day, for a great race. This year we came out on top with a hard-fought victory. North Bondi fought hard and gave it everything they had, but so did we. The stan mac is more than just a race it’s a battle, a tradition, a long-fought battle between two great clubs.
Congrats to all the swimmers, you make both clubs very proud, thank you to Dori & Nick who put their heart and soul into our team each and every year.
Also, a big shout out to Matt Hamilton & Simon Storry who between them have raced in the stan mac for North Bondi for over 50 years combined, and both said this was their last race… what an achievement!!!.
It’s days like these that should make us all proud, whether you are on the winning or losing team, Bondi

Today, sadly, we lower our flag to half mast to pay our respects to an active patrolling member of our club, Andrew Hoppe.

Andrew has held many roles in our club over the years, mustering enthusiasm for the annual lIfesaving parade at the Mardi Gras, organising our Higher awards program, and generally helping out wherever he could.

He will be sadly missed by the club and we will advise more details on the funeral service when available.

Today marks 85 years since Bla

Today marks 85 years since Black Sunday on Bondi Beach.
Sunday 6 February 1938 saw the largest mass rescue in 245 of 250 people saved and, unfortunately, five died when they were swept off a sand bank.
It was just after 3pm and the Club’s Sunday Surf Race was about to be run. That proved incredibly fortunate with those waiting on the sand for the race leaping into action to bring people back to shore. The incident also happened as the Club’s patrols were swapping over, so there were over 60 Bondi Surf Club members on the beach!
Today we remember the five people who lost their lives on Black Sunday and honour those who saved so many other lives.
